Chainmail Necklace Inspired by “The Astrolabe”

🛠 While making this chainmail necklace, I got inspired by the magnificent computer of the ancients: “The Astrolabe” • The name is derived from Greek astrolabos meaning "star-taker" and it is used by astronomers to predict the positions of the sun, moon, stars and the planets.
💫 I wrote more about it in my older posts so you can check it out under the "Written By Xn" section.
And here is the final Xn Chainmail work:

What do you think about it? Your comments are always appreciated so feel free to write!

Working in Nature

Pin It Nature is my motivator, my cure, my joy and all the nice feelings that I can sense. So I prefer to work in green whenever I can. Here are some shots from my latest works, displayed in nature.

RING RING!

Why not CHAINMAIL RINGS? ;)

WORK IN PROGRESS

Pin It        While working on a piece, I also love to make improvisations. Things turn out to be very different sometimes and I like that dynamism of chainmail a lot!
On the other hand, I do not work with tutorials and always figure out things by myself so sometimes a pendant like this can take 5 hours to finish, in order to make the ring sizes match correctly without getting too tight or loose.

I have a little, magical, very sweet inspiration as well.. You see a small part of her below but I will share more pictures in the upcoming posts :)

No, unfortunately I do not work for NASA, yet.. :) And maybe chainmail is way too heavy for them..

NATURAL STONES IN CHAINMAIL ARMOR

Pin It I usually collect a few souvenirs from the places I have been to, but I prefer mostly the natural ones. Sometimes a small bottle of sand, sometimes leaves, shells and mostly natural stones. Instead of keeping such things in boxes, I like to see them. Glass jars, small bottles, decorative small plates are ideal for such displays. And I have one more idea to keep them even closer.

So here is a natural stone found from the seaside and surrounded by a chainmail armor (I polished this one but it can also be left unpolished):

The New Chainmail Top

I wasn't able to find enough time to make bigger and more elaborated pieces for quite a while, however I finally finished the latest chainmail top I was working on for some weeks (even months). Here is my full metal final product.

New Chainmail Pattern: "Eu 4 in 1 Thrice"

Pin It       As you know there are hundreds of different chainmail patterns, some of which were derived from basic weaves. Such as this new one, it is the variation of European 4 in 1 and you only double the rings with smaller sized rings. It turned out to be one of my favorite weaves actually. Here is the final work:

Latest Chainmail Mix by Xn

Back to chainmail again. Here are some new stuff I made in the past weeks: A shoulder piece (originally aimed to be a bra but I like the sudden change of ideas), some new pendants and a Byzantine medallion.

New Chainmail Patterns: "Scherzo" - "Rosetta" - "Serpent's Spine"

Pin It The best part of making chainmail is to be able to learn tens, even hundreds of different patterns changing from culture to culture. I also try to practise as much patterns as I can. Here are the latest ones I made:

Where Is Chainmail In My Life? Everywhere Everyday :)

I was trying to make a daily-life combination with a chainmail armour and some other pieces. This is a quickly done selection but I like it actually.
Will I wear it? Yes I will. (But I'd rather recommend it for spring or summer since it is ice-cold! :)

All We Need Is Less

Pin It       Simple designs are sometimes the best details that can express style and individuality. This bracelet/wrist band is one of them in my opinion. It is not a complicated chainmail weave but the final result looks cool and satisfying to me.

Plain T-shirt vs. T-shirt With Chains

I am afraid I'm such a chain addict that even on a very heavy rainy day, I put on my chains but forget to take an umbrella with me :)

Chainmail Cabochon Around a "Varanus Griseus Griseus"

Pin It       I collect most of the objects about reptiles, bugs and insects so people who know my passion bring me such pieces. Few days ago my uncle brought me a coin with a Varanus Griseus Griseus. ınstead of putting it aside, I made a chainmail cabochon around it and started to use.

No Plain T-Shirts in Summer

Pin It       You can't wear much on summer except for thin t-shirts or halter-tops and I love decorating these plain pieces with fancy yet elegant accessories. From time to time I make shoulder chains and body harnesses for that reason and here is one of them:

Such things always look cool I think

Matt Gold Scalemaille Neck & Shoulder Piece

Pin It I love the combination of chains and scales especially when using it like a body accessory rather than a smaller jewelry. This one is a connection between the neck and the shoulder. I also find matt gold color scales always cool.

Although we don't need to use such protections today I can't stop making and admiring them. This one is for the arm, again made with scales and chains:
