After almost 15 years, I can confess that I am addicted to my chainmail rings and pliers. I sincerely feel uncomfortable when I do not carry them with me so you can see me mailing in a cafe, on the ship or anywhere else. Sea shore is also one of those places :) -Yeah this is my style of resting-

Long Time No See..
It has been quite a long time since I last wrote in my blog.
This fact makes me restless and excited because I want to do a lot of things at
the same time and I want to do all of them so badly! For example, currently I
am working in an archaeological excavation and also run my chainmail design brand through
Etsy. Excavation takes my days, chainmail takes the rest of my days and nights,
including the weekends.
[By the way brief information for the ones who are intrested
in: Our excavation site is the “Küçükyalı ArkeoPark” located in the Anatolian
side of İstanbul, Turkey. It is a 1200 year-old Byzantine structure complex consisting of a
monastery, church and a cistern. You can find more details in one of my previous
posts: http://xnpurple.blogspot.com.tr/2016/03/a-sustainable-urban-archaeology.html ]
Except for these 2 occupations:
- I have -and still continue to buy- a lot of books that I
want to read,
- There are hundreds of topics I want to search and write on, ranging from botany to zoology, from outer space to history, from clean eating to medieval culture etc,
- I’ve participated a “Go Game” workshop short while ago and I want to
practise it with my best friend laying on the grass in a cool summer evening,
- I am in love with Luxor, my sphynx cat and I want to watch
movies and tv series with her, putting one after another,
- I like translating ancient Ottoman language into modern
Turkish and I want to practise it more, want to memorise new words,
- I travel as much as I can whenever I find (or can create
free) time, so I want to travel also,
- Among all these things I have lack of sleep as you may
guess. I am fine with it but in order to keep healthy, I want to sleep a bit
more, so forth an so on..
And these are just the first things coming to my mind. If I continue
with my list, this post can last forever J
My point is, there are so many things in life that we can be
interested in, we can (and should) be curious about -I really don’t understand the people
who get bored easily. Life is too short for all the things we want to learn or
see or practise.
Now I am able to write because we have a 10-day national holiday and I am having the best time in my own way like I dreamt for a long time.
Have you ever thought about your own wish list in life? Shall
we use the time more efficiently to satisfy ourselves more?...

My Rhodes Vacation - II
Pin It
I wanted to write a seperate post about eating/drinking in Rhodes because it is both one of my favorite subjects and a very rich culture there. The most popular food type is the sea food -not surprisingly. You can eat fresh fish, octopus, mussels, calamari and such. However in our first day we ate the worst fish in our lives. It was very hard and tasteless (I think the owner realised his mistake because he came by and wanted to kiss and hug us many times and afterwards served many free offers!!) but except for that first inexperienced try, everything was just wonderful.
When you hear the word "Greece", probably the second word you hear will be "ouzo", the anise-flavored local drink -which is almost the same as our national drink, Turkish raki. It goes very well ice-cold with sea food.
In Rhodes you can try many different foods at the same time with mixed plates. We did that a couple of times and by that way tasted many Greek foods (which also belong to our cousine with small differences:) like mousakka, tzatziki ("cacik" in Turkish), lazagna, dolma (stuffed vegetables), meatballs, cheeseballs, rice, mashed eggplants and many more...

If you are fond of meat, I recommend you to go to "Lemoni" grill restaurant. It is in the center of the Old Town and one of the cheapest but most delicious places in Rhodes!

Tasting the local wine in one of the center spots in the Old Town is a must as well.

And in our last day: Very happy me after eating so many good foods but also very unwilling to end the vacation.
My Rhodes Vacation - I
Pin It
I was on my summer holiday all through the last week and it was really a good one. I spent it in a Greek island: Rhodes, island of the knights :) After that holiday I guess I complimented on the place so much that 3 friends of mine decided to go there. So let me give you some more details as well:
It is a famous historical island with population of 116.000. Historically, Rhodes is famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the medieval Old Town of the City has been declared a World Heritage Site.
I found our hotel from booking.com and got very satisfied with it. Also the location is perfect with just 1 minute walk to the Old Town center. In this island you can rest, eat good food, enjoy various kinds of local souvenirs, enjoy the turquoise sea, see historical sites and remainings and of course taste the unique booze "ouzo". You can also go on a boat tour that stops by the other beaches and popular spots.

I think the best season to enjoy the sea and all these things is between July-August because since it is an island, it is quite windy and that goes very well with the hot weather, but I am not sure about the same effect after September or October.

Peaceful Weekend In Nature

In my previoust posts I shared some pictures from Sile, a seaside town close to Istanbul. I spent the weekend with my family there again and had a silent, peaceful & enjoyable holiday. Here are some shots from there.

Weekend Home-Atelier
Pin It
In the weekends I like spending time mostly at home and working on my chainmails and artworks or reading because unfortunately I have less time for these in the weekdays since I work. I also like going out at nights with my friends or family so I try to be productive and enjoy myself in the day. Every weekend, after waking up early and going out for a walk on the seaside for a few hours, I like coming home, having a good breakfast, maybe watching a movie and then starting to work on my things. It doesn't sound so attractive but when you wake up early, you have time to do these all so I prefer that way.
Here is a picture of my working space from this last weekend (I hope I will share the final products soon:)
