More Luxor

Pin It       I saw that living in the same house with a cat is something that you can not understand unless you do so. Before Luxor came to our house, my mother was terrified of cats, my father did not want it at all and my brother was running away when he saw one. So when I told them I would bring a sphynx kitten to our home, the next day my mother got sick. The day I brought it, a big argument took place within the family. I had to stay at a friends house for ten days :) Then they only let me in if I kept it 'only' in my room. I said "ok" and did so, because I knew things would come out differently.

Around 1 week later, my mother was running after Luxor in order to hug her, 2 weeks later my father started to visit my room to say "good bye" to Luxor(!) before leaving for work :)) and 3 months later my brother accepted touching him (yes he is a stubborn, resistent person :)

Now Luxor is our joy, little member of our family having a very big place in our lives and hearts. Usually my life is not so full of good choices :) but bringing her home is the best thing I have ever done! I strongly recommend everybody to experience this sincere love and caring in their own lives.

Whatever action I do, she likes to join (or to be a part of it literally :)

Long-Awaited Luxor: My Dear Sphynx Cat

Pin It       The ones who read my older posts will know how much I was longing to have a sphynx cat. I could only find pictures of them and sigh.. Finally with the big help of a sphynx-loving friend I found a kitten and named her Luxor. By now we have been together for 1 month and 20 days.
I am familiar with looking after bearded dragons and tarantulas but had no experience with cats at all. I was even scared of them in the past years before I fall in love with sphynx cats. Therefore, I had a bit difficulty in the first couple of weeks but it is worth that. Now we started to become a family.
Let me introduce you my dear baby girl Luxor:

I learn a lot with her and she is a very big reason to go home immediately after work. She likes to sleep hand in hand. :)

And More Dragons...

Pin It      While Niche Surtur is getting bigger, I have another guest in my terrarium. My friend gave me his dragon before he went on a holiday so now I have two. The very first day was quite worrying because it was obvious that Surtur didn't want any company with him but at the end of the night the picture was as follows:))

The one at the back is my guest. At first sight, you may think that she is hugging him but for the dragons it is important to be on the top so especially the males climb up the highest possible point in the terrarium to claim their property. This time I also prefer to suppose that she is hugging him :)) By the way they are both from the same family and -most probably- brother & sister. They eat in a different way, sleep in a different way and they are smaller than they look in the pictures:) All in all they are just few-months-old babies and a huge source of my happiness.

Niche Surtur's Terrarium

Pin It Yes finally the decoration of Surtur's terrarium is finished and it seems he is happier in this natural environment. He is climbing on branches and jumping from one piece of wood to another. :)

More Of "Niche Surtur" :)

We are most of the time hand to hand and I love this little creature very much. (And yes he is everywhere, even on my friend's sunglasses. :) It will grow up to 60 cm. I really wonder how long it will take him to reach that length.

Surtur Rising :)

Pin It       Yes it is the name of an Amon Amarth album but also an introduction to a local news at the PurPLe PLanet. Finally my new buddy has arrived. I was looking forward to seing him for a couple of days and we met at last. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you my very own bearded dragon "Niche Surtur" :)
He is going to change his skin very soon so his colour got darker. I wonder how it will look like after the moulting process.

He sees chainmail bracelets for the first time :P (And yes I have a long arm:))

More of My "Safir"

Pin It       In the begining, my aim was only to share my artworks, crafts and mostly the things I created but lately I have been writing more and sharing more of my life -mostly the animals:)- But afterall it is a curiosity cabinet so all things are welcome:) And I think it is also nice to share more of the writer's life because you can see what kinds of things inspire me in daily life. After a productive vacation period I hope to share my new works as well.
I keep this blog also as a virtual diary so this time it is to record Safir's first moulting period and the developments I noticed afterwards.

The picture above was taken right after the moulting period (15.06.2013), noticeable features are her bright and fresh skin, softer head & teeth. I learned that since her teeth are soft, it is better not to feed her for a few days. As a sign of the upcoming moulting, she lost her hair at the back of her body, stopped eating, moved less and had more tendency to create a web.

And 17 days after the moulting (02.07.2013), with a harder skin and a stronger head & teeth. I waited for a week and gave her 2 larvae. Although these animals are very resistent to hunger, she seemed like she was starving and ate both of them at once.

SpiderGirl climbing up the walls :) After an inert period before, during and after the moulting, she became very active again and started to walk across her terrarium, climb up the walls and dig in it.

New Episode: Bearded Dragon :)

My friend (who got me my tarantula) is a big fan of animals, especially the exotic ones. He and his wife are looking after a crocodile, a cat, a tarantula, two bearded dragons and many tropical fish in their home. (By the way he has a Facebook group with this theme: Exo Turkey. Here is the link if you are interested: https://www.facebook.com/egzotikturkiye?fref=ts)
He brought one of the dragons today for me to see. I (of course:) loved it! So my next destination is this:

Gathering information from every possible source :)

Pin It       I met a sphynx owner on Instagram and asked her some questions about these cats. Not only she was very kind to give me a lot of information but also she invited me to her house to meet her cat "Yoda". It turned out to be a nice coincidence because our houses are very close to eachother so few days ago we met and had a very nice talk. Her cat is really cool, lovely, awesome and many other adjectives. It was a very useful meeting and I learned a lot (both pros and cons:) No matter how hard it is to look after these type of cats, I am sure that I really want one to live together. You can be sure of that also by looking at my wide-open-and-can't-be-closed mouth while holding it: :)

Very Small Sphynx Cat Made My Day...

Pin It       Yesterday a friend of mine showed me an update on Facebook. It was about 2 sphynx cats brought to a place nearby. I couldn't wait to see them so I ran there after I woke up this morning.
My very sincere comment about this: The moment that I hold it really made my day and I realized that I have never felt this much happy for a long time. It belongs to someone else so I needed to leave it but it was very very difficult (sigh)...

Life With "Safir"

Pin It       As you may remember, I am looking after a grammostola pulchra which is a type of tarantula. As I experience this relation with her, I learn more and more everyday. During this period, there were times that I thought it was dead (like 3 or 4 times) or her head was torn apart (it turned out to be the moulting period) or it was sick because it wasn't eating at all (again turned out to be the side effect of moulting). :) Besides I bring up some larvae to feed her but I guess I have taken it so seriously that they grew too much and now they are bigger than the spider itself :)
By the way "moulting" is the routine changing of the exoskeleton/shell and after that process the animal gets approximately %15 bigger (It really did!).
All in all it is an enjoyable and instructive experience and I like it. I really miss her all through the day and as soon as I go home, I run to her terrarium. Here are some pictures:

"Safir" (Turkish word for the sapphire stone) before her moulting period

Future foods (unfortunately)

My New Friend: "Safir"

Yesterday my colleague came to the office with two spiders. One of them was a big one and the other was a baby. I liked it so much that he gave the baby to me. That's how I got my new friend "Safir", a grammostola pulchra, in other words a terrestrial tarantula from Brazil.
I named her "Safir", the Turkish form of "Sapphire" and I suppose that it is a female because I learned that females live for up to 25 years and males can only live for 5 or 6. So I named it as a female (I give positive signs to the universe to turn my wish into a reality:))
I continue reading about this creature more to take good care of it and till now the basic information is as follows: it is a slow growing docile pet, is gentle in temperament, has an appealing dark velvet color, can grow up to 15-19 cm when adult. It's venom potency is unknown (ops!:).
I am preparing a suitable vivarium for her and she eats live food insects such as crickets, locust, butter worms, meal worms, houseflies and cockroaches. I won't be fond of giving her a live animal but I guess this is how it should be.

Me and my favorite cat at work :)

Actually I was a dog person for long long years and was afraid of cats. I still love dogs (actually all animals) but somehow I started to like cats also. This is "Kirpik". I hope soon I will have my "Sphynx Cat" and "Bearded Dragon" as well.

Sphynx Cats

Pin It        I am in love with a specific cat for a long long time. It is called the "Sphynx Cat". Most people find them ugly and weird but I am attracted to them somehow quite much. It is not a very common animal so it is very hard to find one and if you manage finding it, people ask thousands of dollars to sell. Actually I am against "buying" another creature -obviously without its will- so I can not ask a petshop to buy one. Therefore I am looking for a way to find a kitten from a Sphynx owner (hopes hopes...).
One of the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen.
The Canadian Sphynx breed was started in 1966, in Toronto. Let me give some information about these cats first. Main characteristic of them is they do not have any fur. At least not enough to see like on a normal cat. The skin is the color their fur would be, and all the usual cat marking patterns may be found on Sphynx skin. These cats are known for their extroverted behavior. They display a high level of energy, intelligence, curiosity, and affection for their owners. (I want a company like that so much.)
According to my sources, it is quite difficult to take care of these cats because since they have the lack of fur, they need close attention to be cleaned thoroughly. One bath a week is usually sufficient. Care should be taken to limit the Sphynx cat's exposure to sunlight also, because they can develop sunburn and skin damage similar to that of humans. All in all, all the part of their body, even the smallest piece of skin under the nail needs to be taken care of by the owner -as they have more wax on their body.
(Am I ready for that challenge? YESSS.)

P.S. Dear reader, if by chance you know anyone to help me about this issue I will appreciate it sooo much and be sooo glad (yes, she still hopes :).
